Ruthven Barracks

These stunning ruins were constructed in the 1700s to watch over the valley’s population and keep them in line. Many people know that the famous Jacobite Rebellion of Bonnie Prince Charlie ended at the Battle of Culloden in nearby Inverness. Ruthven Barracks, however, is the site of the final victory of the rebel forces. Here, the Jacobite troops stormed the walls and sacked the stronghold, setting it alight to buy their comrades time to flee.

Today these imposing ruins remind us of our history and how times have changed. They also have some stunning views over the valley!
