Cairngorms National Park
The Cairngorms National Park is the largest national park in the UK and it is home to some of the most stunning scenery in Scotland. The park boasts an impressive array of wildlife, including red deer, golden eagles, and mountain hares, and it is also home to some of the highest peaks in the UK, including Ben Macdui and Cairn Gorm.
There are many walking trails in the Cairngorms, ranging from easy strolls to challenging hikes. Some of the most popular trails include the Lairig Ghru, a 19-mile long trail that passes through the heart of the Cairngorms, and the Cairngorm Plateau, a challenging hike that takes you to the summit of Cairn Gorm.
Uath Lochans
There are plenty of gorgeous wild swimming locations in the Cairngorms. … If it’s a beautiful walk plus swim that you’re after, a family favourite are the Uath Lochans getting here involves a little adventure up a narrow, winding road – but it’s worth it! Uath Lochans is one of the prettiest woodlands in the area, with an easy trail around the lochans or a longer route up to a superb view over Strathspey.
They are perfect for a wild swim, though definitely remember a towel and warm, dry clothes for the walk back!.
Loch an Eilein (loch of the island)
Loch an Eilein is gorgeous. Its waters reflect the beautiful landscape surrounding it – the striking pine forests of the Rothiemurchus Estate forest and the Cairngorm mountain range. A ruined island castle lies in the middle of the loch adding to the dramatic scenery.
In the Summer, ospreys nest in the castle’s ruins and leisurely walking the 3-mile (5 K) circular walk, you often encounter red squirrels or hear the distinctive noise of woodpeckers hunting for food.
