Our Story
Bringing Old Scottish Buildings Back to Life
House of Danu began with a simple belief: some of the most beautiful buildings in Scotland are the ones that have been overlooked.
Based in Edinburgh and shaped by our years living in the Highlands, we have always been drawn to properties with history. The old stone buildings, the forgotten townhouses, the places that feel full of stories but in need of care.
We believe overlooked buildings often hold the greatest potential.
From the Highlands to the Capital
Living in the Highlands taught us to appreciate Scotland’s landscape, heritage and architecture. Many rural buildings sit unused or under-loved, full of character but challenging to restore. When we returned to Edinburgh, we brought that same mindset with us.
Today, House of Danu works across Edinburgh and the Highlands, carefully transforming unique Scottish properties into beautifully designed self-catered stays that honour their past while giving them a new purpose.
Restoration with Respect
Every property we work with is different.
We prioritise:
- Preserving original features
- Respecting the building’s history
- Thoughtful, design-led interiors
- Creating spaces that feel rooted in Scotland
Our aim is not simply to renovate, but to restore what makes a building special while making it welcoming and comfortable for modern travellers.
A New Chapter for Old Spaces
We specialise in properties that others may consider too complex: older structures, unusual layouts, buildings that require patience and imagination.
By bringing them back into use as high-quality self-catered accommodation, we help ensure these spaces continue to be lived in, enjoyed and cared for.
Each stay becomes part of the building’s next chapter.
More Than Just a Stay
For our guests, this means staying somewhere with character and authenticity.
For property owners, it means seeing a once-unused building thoughtfully revived and professionally cared for.
For us, it’s about safeguarding small pieces of Scotland’s architectural heritage – one property at a time.
